Car Woes/Tension Headache that led to a trip to the ER

Well, well, well........when it rains it pours. Dan took his car into the shop to get what he thought was merely a new set of brake pads. However, it turns out that he needed $2000 worth of repairs. He did end up spending a pretty penny getting the front brakes completely replaced and only one of the back ones needed to be done. We then took the shop's remaining estimates to a local shop (the one here in Gridley that we have used before) to get another quote for the repairs needed. He has been in business for 35 years and has an outstanding reputation. It turns out that the first shop grossly over exaggerated the work that needed to be done. We still need to spend about $350-400 more, but this can be done within the next few months. Overall, the total cost of the repairs will equal about $1000, NOT $2000. Still alot of money to us, but it needs to be done :(
This all happened, unfortunately, on the day that I got the worst Tension headache/neck spasm I've ever had. I've had quite a stressful few weeks at school, with many new children starting the program and some presenting challenges. I did go to work that day, but left around 9am. I thought all I needed was a long warm shower, some medicine and rest. Boy was I wrong. It kept getting worse throughout the day. Dan tried massaging it for me. We tried using some pressure points that we read on-line....nothing was working. The spasms got quite bad around 9pm. I tried to go to bed, but was in way to much pain. Finally, Dan took me to the ER. I received two shots and an oral muscle relaxer. By the time we got home, it was pushing 1 am and poor Dan had to work in the morning. I spent Friday in a daze from the Norflex (muscle relaxer) and Vicodin (pain medicine). Saturday I was feeling much better and only had to take one Vicodin. Same for Sunday. Now it's Monday (my regular day off) and I'm home with Olivia. I'm definitely not taken any medicine being alone with her. I pray this never happens again. I've vowed to find different outlets for my stress and try saying the magic word "NO" every once in awhile. Anybody think this is possible???? I'm REALLY going to try!!!!

You poor things. First of all, I can understand the car woes -those stink. Maybe someone is trying to tell you it's time to buy a minivan?? HA HA HA! I'm glad you got another estimate, I can't believe they were going to charge you $2000. That's terrible.

AND I can't believe you were in the ER. You poor thing...get lots of rest and take care of yourself. I'm glad to hear that you're feeling better.

BTW, if you ever need to rest or run errands and need someone to watch Olivia...we'd love to have her come play!

I get muscle spasms in my neck, too. To the point I can't move. Our chiropractor is incredibly, but not all are as good. I would suggest finding a good one and go for regular "maintenance" visits to prevent the major paralyzing incidents. Seems to be working so far. He also gave me some "Myocalm" which is a natural supplement of magnesium that relaxes the muscles (as opposed to calcium that contracts them). Hope that helps!
